National Runoffs CSR
2008-10-12 - Topeka, Kansas. The last race of the year to determine the national champion was held this weekend in kansas We went into the race with realistic hopes of only a top ten due to a late rule change which essentially made our car to heavy to contest for the race win. Crew Chief Matt Rosenke and mechanics Richard Cotrill and John Cotrill stated "we gave up over a hundred and thirty pounds to our competition and with these cars only weighng a thousand pounds that was like 15 percent". The week started with poor weather which shortened our on track time by the one session which Souliotis could have really used. We had two other qualifying sessions which were used more for learning the track rather then going for ulimate lap time. With the last qualifying on thursday we had no other track time till our race sunday, early morning. Despite little track knowledge we started tenth on the grid. Souliots was really hoping for rain to equalize the field but the clouds and rain held off and it was a windy dry race. The start was ok and we made up two positions right off. Eventually we got side by side with sixth place and it was a heated battle into the carousel. "The other driver pinched me a bit and when I turned a little sharp I had an instant spin". After a quick engine restart (which happened to be the last lap) the car made it across the line in seventh place, and essentially put us as the Pacific Champions and seventh in the country. To put that into perspective, 230 drivers took part in our class during the 2008 season. For next season we have decided to build a more competitive car and it should be ready by spring time. Team Bite Racing would like to thank long time sponsor Speedway Motors and new sponsor Sarpinos eatery.Chris Souliotis would especially like to thank his mechanic and friend of seven years Matt Rosenke who tirelessly works for the enjoyment of the sport.
